Gear Analysis: The Gorka In Idlib

The Gorka suit is one of the more interesting cases of gear ubiquity among non-state combatant groups in the Syrian Civil War. But while most militias can claim to have fielded one of the suits variants at least a few times, one side in particular has highlighted its use in particular. No, not the suits inventors (Russia), nor the Russian-backed SAA. Fighters in Idlib Province, primarily loyal to Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), a Salafi jihadist group that controls much of the province, have used gorkas in surprising quantities, even leading to the creation of locally made clones of the suits in every camouflage pattern under the sun. Interview: British Paratrooper in the Ukrainian Marines

Freelancers has managed to get in contact with a veteran British soldier, YPG fighter, and fighter/instructor in the controversial Azov Battalion. He is currently serving in the Ukrainian Marines, and is among a group of foreigners who have recently attained the status of the first foreigners to attain airborne qualifications in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
